Short answer

For the same ticketing at a lower price, pick Freshdesk. For email-first support, Help Scout. For the lowest bill, Zoho Desk (free for 3 users, then $7 per user). For AI-first chat, Intercom. For Shopify stores, Gorgias.

If the same small team handles support and sales in chat and messengers, CRMsoftware.pro (our product) gives AI chat, an inbox and a CRM for one flat price with users included.

Updated November 6, 2026. We rechecked every price, added what changed at Zendesk this year, a "Zendesk competitors by use case" table, a bigger 5-agent cost table that includes the AI bill, and two new tools: Gorgias and HelpCrunch. Some prices moved since October: Front's AI agent and LiveAgent's plans, for example.

Prices were checked on each vendor's pricing page on November 6, 2026. They are list prices in US dollars, billed yearly unless we say otherwise, before tax and add-ons. We do not give scores. Each tool gets its price, what it does well, what it lacks and the team it suits.

There is a 14-day free trial of Suite Professional with Copilot. There is no free plan. The catch for small teams: the $19 "starting price" has no live chat. Chat starts at $55 per agent.

What changed at Zendesk in 2026

List prices did not change since our October check. Three things did change, and they matter if you are comparing AI costs:

  • Forethought acquisition. Zendesk completed its purchase of Forethought on March 26, 2026. The AI agents are now sold as "Forethought AI Agents by Zendesk", and Zendesk's pricing page says they also work with other help desks.
  • "Verified" resolutions. At its Relate conference on May 19, 2026, Zendesk said it is expanding outcome-based pricing. A separate AI model must confirm each resolution before you are charged, and spam is excluded. In Zendesk's words: "Customers pay only for outcomes that are genuinely, confirmably resolved."
  • More AI agents. Zendesk announced specialized AI agents on September 14 and employee service AI agents on October 26, 2026. Several features from 2026 launched in early access, so check what your plan includes before you count on them.

What this means for you: Zendesk's AI is billed per resolution, like Intercom and Help Scout. Compare the price per resolution and how many are included, not only the seat price.

Why teams look for a Zendesk alternative

  • Live chat costs $55 per agent. The cheap plan is email only.
  • Two bills. Seats plus AI resolutions plus add-ons such as Copilot ($50 per agent) add up.
  • No free plan. Several alternatives are free for 2 to 10 users.
  • Setup effort. Triggers, views and macros are powerful, but a 3-person team may not need them.
  • Support plus sales. Zendesk is a help desk. Teams that also sell in chat often add a CRM on top.

Monthly cost for 5 agents with email, chat and AI

Same team on every tool: 5 agents, email and live chat, and AI that fully resolves 100 conversations a month. We picked the cheapest plan that has both email and chat. Billed yearly, list prices, before tax.

CRMsoftware.pro Launch$19 flat (up to 8 users)1,000 AI messages included$19 (chat and messengers, no email channel)

How we got these numbers: Zendesk extras at the committed rate ($2.00 pay-as-you-go makes it $425). Intercom uses the new-customer price; at the $29 list price the total is $244. Front Starter supports only one channel type, so email plus chat needs Professional.

A Freshdesk "session" is not the same as a resolution, and the 500 free sessions are a one-time allowance. LiveAgent's $11 offer is for trials started by November 22, 2026. Gorgias is left out because it charges per ticket, not per agent: Basic is $50 a month for 300 tickets.

Paying $55 per agent just to get live chat?

CRMsoftware.pro includes AI chat, human handover and a unified inbox from $19 a month for 8 users. Start free or see pricing. Not sure how many agents you need? Try the free live chat staffing calculator.

The 12 best Zendesk alternatives

1. CRMsoftware.pro: best for small teams that do support and sales

This is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. It is an AI chat and voice agent for your website with human handover, a unified inbox and a sales CRM. It is not a ticketing help desk with SLAs. Skip it if most of your support arrives by email.

  • Price: Free for 3 users and 100 AI messages a month. Launch $19/mo for 8 users and 1,000 AI messages. Growth $49 for 20 users with a team inbox and saved replies. Scale $99 for 50 users with API and HubSpot/Salesforce sync. Billed yearly; monthly is $24, $59 and $119.
  • Pros: flat price with users included; WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Messenger and Slack from Launch; bookings, quotes and invoices built in.
  • Cons: no email channel on the plans; no SLA policies or public help center like Zendesk; fewer integrations than Zendesk's marketplace.
  • Best for: teams of 2–20 that answer customers in chat and messengers.

2. Freshdesk: best like-for-like Zendesk replacement

Freshdesk works the way Zendesk does: tickets, views, automations and a portal. Freshdesk Growth is $19 per agent a month billed yearly ($23 monthly), Pro $55 ($66) and Enterprise $89 ($107). Those plans focus on email tickets.

For live chat and messaging you need Freshdesk Omni: $29, $79 or $119 per agent billed yearly. Every plan includes a one-time allowance of 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions; then it is $49 per 100 sessions. Copilot is $29 per agent ($35 monthly) on Pro and Enterprise.

  • Pros: familiar for Zendesk users; Omni Growth with chat costs about half of Zendesk Suite Team; 14-day trial of Enterprise.
  • Cons: no free plan; Freshdesk, Freshdesk Omni and Freshchat overlap, which makes the choice confusing; a "session" is not a resolution.
  • Best for: teams that want Zendesk's way of working at a lower price. Still unsure? See our Freshdesk alternatives.

3. Zoho Desk: best budget help desk

Zoho Desk is free for 3 users with email ticketing. Express is $7 per user a month billed yearly ($9 monthly) for up to 5 users. Standard is $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40.

Channels decide the plan. WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and a basic chat widget start on Standard. Zia AI is on Professional. The full live chat (Zoho SalesIQ) is on Enterprise. Express can use generative AI with your own API key.

  • Pros: lowest entry price on this list; free data migration help; grows into the Zoho suite.
  • Cons: chat and Zia AI need higher editions; more setup than Help Scout.
  • Best for: very small teams that handle email and web forms.

4. Help Scout: best for simple, email-first support

Help Scout feels like personal email to your customers. Standard is $25 per user a month billed yearly ($30 monthly) for up to 25 users. Plus is $45 ($54) and Pro $75 ($90, 10 users minimum).

The free plan covers 5 users, 1 inbox and 1 Docs site. AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution. New accounts get 3 months of unlimited resolutions free, and you can set a monthly spending cap.

  • Pros: easy to learn; live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger from Standard; a useful free plan.
  • Cons: fewer routing and SLA options than Zendesk; advanced workflows start on Plus.
  • Best for: teams whose support arrives mostly by email. Compare more in our Help Scout alternatives.

5. Intercom: best AI-first chat support

Intercom Essential is $19 per seat a month billed yearly for new customers ($29 list). Advanced is $85 and Expert $132. The Fin AI agent costs $0.99 per outcome. Copilot is $29 per agent. There is a 14-day trial with no card.

  • Pros: strong AI agent, modern messenger and help center; Fin can also run on other help desks.
  • Cons: seats plus outcomes can exceed a Zendesk bill at high volume; no free plan.
  • Best for: SaaS teams that want AI to resolve most chats. See our full Intercom alternatives guide too.

6. HubSpot Service Hub: best if your CRM is HubSpot

HubSpot is free for 2 users with live chat. Starter seats list at $20; on November 6, 2026 HubSpot showed $7 for new customers. Professional is $90 per seat plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee.

AI runs on HubSpot Credits: 500 a month on Starter and 3,000 on Professional, with extra credits at $0.01 each.

  • Pros: tickets, chats and deals on one contact record.
  • Cons: most help desk features Zendesk users rely on sit on Professional; credit-based AI is hard to forecast.
  • Best for: companies already running sales and marketing in HubSpot.

7. Front: best for collaborative shared inboxes

Front Starter is $25 per seat a month billed yearly for up to 10 seats, but it supports only one channel type: email, chat or SMS. Professional ($65) adds omnichannel. The Autopilot AI agent now starts at $0.39 per conversation. Copilot is $20 per seat.

  • Pros: great for teams that work customer email together, with comments, assignment and shared drafts.
  • Cons: fewer help desk features than Zendesk; email plus chat needs Professional; WhatsApp is a paid add-on on Professional and up.
  • Best for: account management and operations teams.

8. Hiver: best help desk inside Gmail

Hiver Growth is $25 per user a month billed yearly ($35 monthly), with a 2-seat minimum. AI agents and Copilot are included on all plans at no extra cost. There is a 7-day trial.

  • Pros: no new app for Gmail teams; live chat on Growth; AI in the seat price.
  • Cons: SLAs, API and the customer portal start on Pro ($55).
  • Best for: teams that already live in Google Workspace.

9. Gorgias: best for Shopify and ecommerce

Gorgias is a help desk built for online stores. It charges by tickets, never per agent. Starter is $10 a month for 50 tickets (monthly billing only). Basic is $50 billed yearly ($60 monthly) for 300 tickets, Pro $300 for 2,000 and Advanced $750 for 5,000.

The AI Agent costs $0.90 per interaction on yearly plans or $1.00 on monthly plans. Each AI interaction also counts as a ticket.

  • Pros: order data next to each ticket; pricing is by tickets, not per agent.
  • Cons: not a fit outside ecommerce; busy months cost more because you pay per ticket.
  • Best for: Shopify brands with order, shipping and return questions.

10. HelpCrunch: best budget all-in-one for chat and email

HelpCrunch covers live chat, a shared inbox, a knowledge base and email campaigns. Basic is $12 per team member a month billed yearly and Pro $20. Email volume costs extra on Basic and Pro (on Pro, 5,000 emails add $16 a month). Unlimited is $495 a month for any number of team members.

Pro includes 50 AI conversations a month and Unlimited 100. More cost $23.20 a month per 100 billed yearly.

  • Pros: low seat price; messenger channels on every plan; free migration offered; 14-day trial with no card.
  • Cons: no free plan; no AI on Basic; fewer ticketing and SLA features than Zendesk.
  • Best for: small SaaS and online businesses that mostly chat.

11. LiveAgent: cheapest ticketing with live chat

LiveAgent renamed its plans. Starter is $11 per agent a month billed yearly for trials started by November 22, 2026 ($15 regular), for up to 5 agents. Team is $22 ($29 regular) for up to 15 agents. There is a 30-day trial.

LiveAgent does not charge for AI. You connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini account and pay that provider; LiveAgent estimates about 2–4 cents per AI chat.

  • Pros: low price for chat plus tickets; long trial; no AI markup.
  • Cons: Starter is limited to 2 chat buttons, 3 email accounts and 1 AI agent; you manage an AI provider account.
  • Best for: budget teams that need chat and email in one place.

12. Chatwoot: best open-source Zendesk alternative

Chatwoot can be self-hosted for free or used in the cloud. Startups is $19 per agent a month with 300 Captain AI credits, Business $39 with 500. Extra credits are $20 per 1,000.

The free Hacker cloud plan covers 2 agents and 500 conversations a month, with live chat only and 30-day data retention.

  • Pros: own your data; multichannel inbox on paid plans.
  • Cons: self-hosting needs a developer; fewer enterprise reporting features.
  • Best for: technical teams with privacy or hosting requirements.

Before you sign, ask each vendor three questions: what counts as a billable AI resolution or conversation, what the price is at renewal, and whether you can cap monthly AI spend.

Add up what your current tools cost with the free SaaS cost savings calculator, and prepare your escalation rules with our escalation email templates.

How to switch from Zendesk: checklist

  1. Check your renewal date. Start at least 30 days before it so you do not pay for another term.
  2. Export your data. Tickets with comments, users, organizations, tags and help center articles. Ask the new vendor if it has a Zendesk importer; several offer free migration help.
  3. List your macros. Keep the ones used in the last 90 days and rebuild them as saved replies. Our live chat canned responses can fill gaps.
  4. Map triggers, automations and SLAs. Write each rule in plain words ("if VIP and no reply in 2 hours, alert the lead"), then rebuild it in the new tool.
  5. Rebuild views and routing. Groups, skills and round-robin rules often sit on higher plans, so check before you pick a plan.
  6. Move the help center and set redirects. Map every old article URL to its new URL and add 301 redirects, so customers and search engines land on the right page.
  7. Load the AI knowledge base and test 20 real customer questions before you turn it on.
  8. Switch channels. Forward your support email, reconnect WhatsApp and social accounts, and swap the chat widget on a few pages first.
  9. Keep Zendesk read-only for one billing cycle in case you need old ticket history.

What is the cheapest Zendesk alternative?

Zoho Desk Express at $7 per user a month for up to 5 users, email only. For tickets plus chat, LiveAgent Starter from $11 per agent. For chat across a team of up to 8, CRMsoftware.pro Launch is $19 a month in total.

Yes at list price. Freshdesk Growth and Zendesk Support Team both cost $19 per agent billed yearly, but with live chat Freshdesk Omni starts at $29 compared with $55 for Zendesk Suite Team.

How much does Zendesk AI cost?

AI agents are in every plan. Team plans include 5 automated resolutions per agent a month and Professional 10. Extra resolutions are $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Copilot is $50 per agent a month billed yearly.

Did Zendesk change its pricing in 2026?

Is Zendesk a CRM?

Not in the usual sense. Zendesk is a help desk: tickets, customer profiles and messaging. If you need sales pipelines and deals, pair it with a CRM or pick a tool that has both.
